Art galleries – Goldfields

Bendigo Art Gallery

The Goldfields region is home to some of Australia’s finest regional galleries. The Art Gallery of Ballarat is Australia’s oldest and largest regional gallery with a comprehensive collection of Australian art, and the proud owner of the area’s most recognised symbol, the Eureka Flag. Bendigo Art Gallery has one of the best European painting and decorative arts collections in Australia. A few kilometres south, Castlemaine Art Gallery and Historical Museum contains a AU$14 million collection featuring works by famous Australian artists such as Tom Roberts, Frederick McCubbin, Arthur Streeton and E. Phillips Fox, while the Central Goldfields Regional Art Gallery in Maryborough hosts outstanding travelling exhibitions.

The region is also home to a very strong arts community – visit the many private galleries and local artists in their own studios.
